Cougar Town is an American television humorous series which centers on a recently divorced 40 – year old woman, Jules Cobb played by actress Courtney Cox who explores the truth about dating while surrounded by women who are also divorced. Jules reenters the dating scene and tried to experience again her younger years by dating younger men while living with her 18-year old son Travis Cobb played by the actor Dan Byrd. Travis loves both his mom and dad even though he is frequently humiliated by both of his parents. He constantly deals with embarrassment from his high school friends and classmates.
One of the important things in the small town of Florida is the football team of Cougar High School since many divorced women are hunting for these young men. Because of the awful split of Jules and her husband, she really want something different to happen in her life. Her best friend and neighbor Ellie Torres (Christina Miller), married to Andy Torres with two sons is her impenitent and ironic confidante who is at all times envious of Jules’ young assistant and friend Laurie Keller portrayed by Busy Philipps. Ellie and Laurie pushed her to date younger men and have some fun. She had some non-serious relationships with younger men but at the end she met her ex-husband again. Bobby Cobb played by actor Brian Van Holt, unemployed and who presently makes his boat as his place of abode, is a born loser and is currently working as a grass cutter at his son’s high school.
Cougar Town is created by Bill Laurence and Kevin Biegel produced by Coquette Productions in association with ABC Studios, premiered on September 2009 and renewed for its 2nd season on January 12, 2010. The sitcom’s first pilot episode reached a whooping number of viewers of more than eleven million, making it one of the most talked about television series. This week’s episode of Cougar Town named “Down South” was a decent episode, it didn’t contain much development of the important plot lines, but at least it showed willingness to do something about Travis and Laurie. It was basically a bottle episode, but for such episode, the group of actors really finished that wine bottle fast enough. As for the details of the show, it went down like everyone expected, as it seems that the creators have decided to try out and test the waters between Laurie and Travis. It is a known fact that the creators of the show has been having second thoughts concerning the coupling of these two, but even when they weren’t a couple, everyone could sense the connection between the two, they simply had outstanding chemistry between them. Such chemistry made it clear to the creators that they have to give them a shot together.
Even though there is an age gap between the two, but it seems that Dan Byrd is no longer able to act as the energetic teenager as he used to be, because the way he acts, it seems that he is of the right age to be dating someone like Laurie, she doesn’t seem older than him. Without a doubt, such coupling will not go without some hardship, as he is facing some major competition to go out with Laurie, the competition is Wade, and another problem that Laurie herself doesn’t have the exact feelings for him, which could be a problem. This brings us to a very funny segment when we saw Wade having total control over Travis. What was up with that? He was controlling him to an extent that he ordered him to dance with her and to his hands on her backside. Everyone hoped that Laurie will start to get an idea on why did Travis stop doing what Wade is telling him to. Beside all of the Laurie and Travis fiasco, it was nice seeing Bobby completing the non issue that Travis has, as he is in love with Laurie, he even told him in a discrete way that he knew all about it all along. So all in all, it was a good episode of Cougar Town, the usual, but it could have been a lot better.
